The Dawnguard is an ancient order of Vampire Hunters that has been dismantled and re-founded multiple times. Many members of this faction are former Vigilants of Stendarr who either wanted to specialize in Vampire hunting or wanted to still hunt monsters without the religious affiliation to one of the divines.
The faction’s main base of operations is Fort Dawnguard, which is a hard to find fortress in one of the Northern mountainous regions of Skyrim. Although a well known faction, they have not yet been counter-invaded by vampires; presumably because these monsters know they would not return from such an attack.
