This university is one of the largest educational institutions in all of Tamriel. Many books have been authored by members of the Arcane University, and used in different schools throughout the continent to teach new mages. The university itself is an entire district within the Imperial City in Cyrodiil, its buildings also housing the Synod, a smaller magic based organisation.
The Arcane University is considered to be the center of magical learning in Tamriel, as thousands leave their home provinces to attend here, to receive the highest level of instruction in the magical arts. The organisation itself serves as the seat of the Council of Mages, who decide on Imperial policy changes related to magic within the Empire itself. The same Council of Mages are the ones who vote on the next Arch-Mage when the current one no longer holds their position.
